Having to wake up at 6am on a public holiday was torture. Putting makeup on in bad lighting and getting in an argument with myself about why my hair was not settling, was how I’d started my Melbourne Cup Day.
However, by 8am I was at Mon Bijou sipping on Veuve Clicquot with my girl Souha, which made waking up worthwhile. The room was filled with beautiful and familiar faces. From Pettifleur Berenger from The Real Housewives of Melbourne, to Dave and Michael from The Bachelorette, talented designer Sue Sensi, Sarah Jane Young from She is Sarah Jane blog and the list goes on.
So much effort had gone into each outfit; from the shoes, to the dresses, and the fascinators – I was in awe. I must add, that the lads looked great too but gone are the days of the classic black suit.
I loved Lady Petrova’s pink, The Rose Dress and fascinator. She was definitely a standout at the event. Champagne was flowing and breakfast was served. I didn’t sample any because my dress was already super tight, but Souha assures me everything was fab, haha. The macarons looked amazing and everyone was in good spirits. I loved hearing Jason Heerah perform and have been such a fan of his since first seeing him at Strut Saturdays many years ago. Once the breakfast was over, I made my way to the races. This was not planned but it was a beautiful, sunny day in Melbourne, so hey, why not?
The girls competing in Myer’s Fashion On The Field looked amazing. I was feeling a little plain-jane wearing the lilac dress that I picked up from ASOS for $23. But in my defence, Nadia Bartel also wore lilac so clearly I was trending, right? I did have a punt but I wasn’t there for the horses. I didn’t win but it was still a little fun. Who doesn’t love getting dressed up, meeting new people and drinking endless amounts of bubbles?
The day ended at Bond Bar for a little dance, even though our feet were killing us. Melbourne Cup Day 2015 was defo the best one I have been to yet. It was a fantastic day and night, thank you to Helen Reizer for the invite.
