As much as I would have loved to add more Valentines day content to my blog this is just gonna have to do.
February 14th has come around so quick! I thought I would make some ‘cliched’ heart cookies that I found on the Donna Hay website.

INGREDIENTS you need:
250g butter, softened
¾ cups (165g) caster (superfine) sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 egg yolk
2¼ cups (335g) plain (all-purpose) flour, sifted
1 cup (160g) icing (confectioner’s) sugar, sifted
1 tablespoon water
pink food colouring
I thought this would be a simple recipe! Man, I fucked up and it’s pretty funny, well I think so anyways.
Simple steps.. mix sugar, butter the usual! I thought I was nailing it.
Then as I was reading the method I realized that I added the icing sugar to the mix rather than the caster sugar. DICKHEAD alert.
I didn’t even realize, but you know what I thought I would go with it and chucked it in the over!
There was one perfect heart shaped biscuit which was sadly burnt.. the others were okay but expanded in shape.
As for the icing, I had never made colored icing before so this was a lot of fun and worked out perfectly!
I made each cookie with love and frustration for the sake of my lovely readers.
It’s all about trying and learning from your mistakes! I now know I need to read the entire method before attempting my next bake up!
I now have a new found respect for all those stores supplying cookies for weddings and events! Hats off to you all.
