Cheat Your Way Through Australia Day

I come from the land down under and I am so glad to have been born in this beautiful country that I get to call home. Let’s be honest – who doesn’t love a public holiday for being an Aussie?! I was contemplating making all the Aussie classics, but I knew it would be an epic fail and really I just wanted to make my lovely readers’ lives easy – okay, and mine too I won’t lie hehe.

This year I will be hosting my first Australia Day BBQ. Our snags will be cooked on a mangal though (if you’re a Turk/Wog you know what that is) and apparently it’s going to be a scorcher. I just love the heat and the work scorcher is just a little sexy.

I have put together some Aussie faves to cheat your way through Australia Day, cause let’s be honest, who wants to be cooking or baking on a public holiday? Not me.

With the Australian classics that I chose, all you have to do is pick up a few items from your local supermarket. How easy is it to throw some pies and sausage rolls in the oven or pick up a pavlova from your local Cheesecake Shop!? Obviously pretty your food up and make them Insta worthy with some accessories – any excuse for a Kmart run my loves.

Australia Day must-haves

  • Lamingtons
  • Meat pie & tomato sauce
  • Fairy bread (thanks, Jess) I did not know fairy bread was a true blue thang.
  • Tim Tams
  • Snags
  • Hot Chips
  • Sausage rolls
  • Pavlova

  • Beer (VB for the win). Drink responsibly.
  • Water. Gotta stay hydrated in summer, ladies.

Get creative

  • Australian flag! It’s Un-Australian to not have a flag on Aussie Day!
  • As for napkins, go for plastic plates & cutlery if your after Aussie theme goodies. Check out Coles, Etsy, $2 shops, Ebay & The Reject Shop for some great affordable options.
  • Tunes!

Creative tip: Get creative with money boxes, Vegemite jars, flowers and shop your linen draws!

For my upcoming BBQ, I got some great style inspiration from Party With Lenzo – check it out here.

Whether you’re heading to the beach, hosting a BBQ or just wanna throw some meat pies in the oven for the kiddies – or smash a pav on your own – have a safe and fun celebration.

How will you be celebrating Australia Day?
